What to expect

DBT — Dialectical Behavior Therapy — is one of the most researched and effective skill sets ever developed for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and building better relationships.

Most people who need these skills never get taught them.

This group works through the complete DBT Skills Manual over six months, covering:

  • Mindfulness — learning to observe without reacting

  • Distress tolerance — getting through hard moments without making them worse

  • Emotion regulation — understanding what your emotions are doing and why

  • Interpersonal effectiveness — asking for what you need and holding your boundaries

What this group is not:

This is a skills education group, not a therapy group.

You do not need a diagnosis to join. You do not need a referral. You do not need to be in therapy — though many members are, and this pairs well with individual work.

This group will not process your trauma, provide clinical treatment, or serve as a crisis resource. It teaches skills. What you do with them is up to you.

It is facilitated by Tim Goode, LPC — a licensed counselor in South Carolina with 15+ years of experience — but your participation in this group does not establish a therapy relationship with GoodeCounsel.

What about confidentiality?

Confidentiality matters. Group members are expected to protect one another’s privacy, attend from a private location, use headphones when possible, and not record sessions.

While GoodeCounsel follows professional confidentiality standards, no group facilitator can fully guarantee the confidentiality of what other members choose to share outside the group. These expectations will be reviewed before enrollment.
